IMPRESSUM - DATENSCHUTZERKLÄRUNG
High resolution microscopes generate very large data sets in 3D. The evaluation, inspection and analysis of these 3D data are formidable challanges.
We developed microVR that renders 3D miroscopical data within a virtual environment. Within the virtual space of microVR, the user can explore 3D microscopical images by visual inspection and analysis of 3D subcellular structures in hitherto unknown detail. The microVR provides a true 3D virtual space, which allows free navigation within the data and their detailed exploration. Moving, zooming and rotating of the visualized microscopical structures in space in combination with head tracking gives a unique immersive experience.
microVR is based on the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. It provides a 1080×1200 pixel resolution per eye and a 110° field of view. The positional tracking system allows the free movement of the user within the created 3D space. Interaction and manipulation of the microscopical object is controlled with a gamepad. The user interface and volume rendering are realized using Unity Software. While primarily designed for light microscopical data, the system can also display other 3D data.
microVR is developed by Lehrstuhl für Medizinische Informatik@Uniklinik RWTH Aachen and MOCA@Uniklinik RWTH Aachen.
